BUCHAREST JEWISH HERITAGE

Tour description: Once a city with a total Jewish population of 70,000, Bucharest counts now only 3,500 members. In spite of the reduced size, the community is strong and is represented by six synagogues, a theatre and a school. Out of the six synagogues only three are in use: The Holy Union Temple, The Great Synagogue and The Coral Temple.
We start our tour with the visit of the Holy Union Temple that houses the Museum of the history of the Romanian Jewish community, and then we take a nice stroll to the Great Synagogue & the Holocaust Museum followed by the recently renovated Coral Temple, all examples of 19th century architecture and silent witnesses of the ups and downs of the Jewish community in Bucharest. After lunch, which can be arranged in one of the many restaurants in the old part of the city, we head to the Romanian Holocaust Memorial, an ensemble of symbolic sculptures unveiled in 2009.
We finish the day with a drive through the city to see the landmarks of the capital of Romania before we head back to the port.
